Marais

The distric was named "Marais" due to the marshy area during the XXIIth century. It's shaped as a triangle between Place de la Bastille, Place de la Republique and the City Hall. Many private hotels of the XVIIth and XVIIIth centuries have been changed into international museums, such as Pablo Picasso museum, Victor Hugo's house, Carnavalet museum, etc.

The Place des Vosges is a wonderful site to visit, it's a model of balance and elegance. The old streets are also famous. The Rosiers street, major area for the Jewish community in Paris, is famous for the atmosphere, the retaurants and shops. Le Marais is full of fashion shops, gourmet addresses, and also has its own department store: the BHV Marais!

The so many bars, restaurants and gay clubs make it the largest gay district in France.

The Nicolas Flamel's house, in Montmorency street, was built in 1407. It's known for being the oldest house in Paris!

Don't miss: Saint Paul - Saint Louis church, the small market place Saint Catherine, Carnavalet museum, Centre Georges Pompidou, Pablo Picasso museum, the Doll museum, the Cognacq Jay museum, museum of Art and history of Judaism, Victor Hugo house, Bastille place, the Bastille opera and the Ile Saint Louis.
